What is MDF Substrate?

MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) substrate is an engineered wood product made by compressing wood fibers with resin under high pressure and temperature. It provides a smooth, stable, and uniform surface, making it an ideal base material in a variety of construction and interior applications. In the context of kitchen marble countertop installation, MDF substrate is often used as a supportive underlayment beneath the marble slab. Its purpose is to provide structural stability, help distribute the weight of the stone evenly, and ensure a level surface for proper adhesion. Additionally, MDF can help absorb minor movements or shifts, reducing the risk of cracks or damage to the marble over time.

What’s the difference between topmount and undermount sinks?

For topmount sinks there is a visible lip that rests on the countertop, whereas for undermount sinks the edge lip of the sink is mounted below a solid surface countertop.
